Mergui Archipelago, located in southernmost part of Myanmar (Burma), comprises over 800 beautiful islands. Due to its virtual isolation, the islands and surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of flora & fauna and very beautiful underwater scenes and marine life.
The only human inhabitants in the area are sea gypsies, namely Salon in Myanmar. They live on boats during dry season and remain on land during rainy season. They still practice the same fishing and boat building techniques used for generation.
Lampi Island is the most popular island for the tourists in Mergui Archipelago. It is famous for its rich of many wild animals, Mangrove Rivers, birds, clean water and Coral Reefs and moreover virgin forest are growing. On this island reserve a National Marine Botanical Garden. It will take three days in Lampi to see in detail. There are nine different parts in it. The southern part of the island is good for fishing.
115 Island is about 38 nautical miles away from Kawthuang. 115 is a group of islands where is crystal water and worth to snorkel to see many colorful school of fishes, hard and soft corals. It is fantastic one of the finest islands to spend time on hiking and jungle trekking through the rain forest. you’ll find here are the very definition of pristine very white and powder sand beaches.It’s no wonder visitors come from all around to sink their toes into miles of pure white sand.
Kha Yin Gwa (Maclcod I )
Kha Yin Gwa ( Maclcod I ) is located at Latitude 10’ 10” and longitude 97’ 56” and about 40 nautical miles away from Kawthaung (Victoria Point). There is Myanmar Andaman Resort is the only man-made construction on the island. The cottages and suites within the resort are scattered amongst the forest, just meters away from the beach.Macleod Island is one of the unspoiled islands in Mergui Archipelago which is worth to do diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking and fishing near and around the island.It is also a wonderful place for bird watching, short trekking and jungle safari on the island. Most tourist boats use to stop off before there.
Salet Galet is a cove(s) and is located between Kyunn Tann Shey (Lampi Marine National Park) and Wa Ale Island in Mergui Archipelago, Myanmar. There are many fishing boats lay at anchor in Salet Galet is good place for the boat to be evacuated from bad weather condition. It seems like a lake. Sometimes The Sea Gypsies (or) The Moken (or) The Salone can be found there.
Moken and fishing boat come and refill fresh water to the side of Kyunn Tann Shey (Lampi Marine National Park). The anchorable place is between 10-12 meters depth. There is a mangrove creek in Wa Ale Island where can be arranged thrilling Kayaking trip along the mangrove creek.
It is good place for wild life lovers because where can be seen monkeys, falcons, Sea eagles and crystal water.
Myauk Ni Island @ Red Monkey Island
Myauk Ni Island is included in the Salon Islands Group and the visitors can go for the day trips. Myauk Ni Island is known as Red Monkey Island among the foreign visitors. The visitors could enjoy the white sand beaches, corals, fishes, forest and birds around the Myauk Ni. Visitors could meet with Salone (Sea Gypsies) around the Island. Salon live on their boat (“Kabang”) to collect shell, fish and various marine animals around the Red Monkey Island.
Ma Kyone Galet Village
Ma Kyone Galet Salon Village is located on Bo Cho Island between 10.40-N and 98.16 E. Salon Festival is held at this village every year. This small port at the southernmost tip of Tanintharyi Division – and the southernmost point of mainland Myanmar(Burma) (800km from Yangon and 2000km from the country’s northern tip) – is only separated from Thailand by a broad estuary in the Pakchan River. To the British it was known as Victoria Point and to the Thais it’s known as Ko Sawng (Second Island). The Burmese name, Kawthoung (also spelt Kawthaung), is a mispronunciation of the latter.
It is located Latitude. 12.6667°, Longitude. 98.2167°. Marcus Island is 34 knots away from Myeik. It has a 400ft long wonderful beach. There are a few soft and hard coral behind the island. It will give you a good chance to relax swimming and sunbathing. There is not many under water creature.
